Reason involved in GC/EC:
I've always had a passion for physics and seeing the photos that our students brought back from visiting a FIRST Competition made me think "wow, that looks amazing". I want to help people in the world and think engineering is a good way to do it.
Good and Bad experiences:
Good: Our 3am Build sessions before a competition. When Rhys and I spent a week at my house building and programming, working with the Onehunga team in the Christmas holidays.
Making so many new friends both in and out of our team and becoming the go-to girl for any team contacting any other team.
Bad: The beginning when I was pushed aside from the building. Miscommunication causing issues within the team, especially during elevation.

Robots are awesome, plus it was the chance to be a geek proper, in a room full of other geeks.
Good and Bad experiences:
Good: Being part of such a great team, making friends with such awesome people. Everyone works well together despite different opinions or views
Bad: I don’t really have many bad memories or experiences, robotics is awesome.

Reason involved in GC/EC:

Good and Bad experiences:
it brings out the best and worst of people emotionally, when you manage to build something that works well, and you do well with it, there is no better feeling in the world.
it gave me an opportunity to show that I am not just an academic, that i can make sucessful stuff with my hands that works. This was proven this year by winning three qualifications for worlds in Clean Sweep

Good opportunity to build stuff. Awesome chance to learn new skills and meet new people from other schools and within our school.

Team Role: [X] Mentor. [Ex-Design, Promotion and Fundraising Leader]
Time involved with GC/EC: 2 years
Reason involved in GC/EC:
To try something new and different from any of my other involvements, to meet new people and work in a close team environment, and to help build something amazing (both in terms of robots and the team).
Good and Bad experiences:
Good: The build sessions we've had after school hours where we have been working in a relaxed, fun and social environment.
Bad: Being given more work that played on existing skills than work with the robots which I wanted to learn more about.

Name: Dylan Trayes

School Year: 11
Team Role: [X] Builder, Coach, Second-Driver
Time involved with GC/EC: 2 years
Reason involved in GC/EC:
I'm paranoid ever after watching terminator i was afraid skynet may become true and i must stop it.
Good and Bad experiences:
Good: Working with Rhys, working through the good and the bad, finally making the best robot we could and reaching our potential.
Bad: During elevation, our first major game, when it was so hard to find a good type of robot to build and not being able to help much with it. It was heart breaking not to make it to the finals in the 2009 Nationals.
